Jolena arrived on May 23rd., which is also her birthday. When she came to her new home and was released from her box, she learned that she had three sisters: Mandy, Veronika and Charlotte.
Since her birthday, the girls have done many things together. They learned how to make a sewing machine work.
They watched the fireworks on TV on the Fourth of July.
They took a selfie and found they could fit all four of them in the photo if they squeezed together.
They figured out how to get books down from the bookcase without throwing them, because they wanted to read, and they knew they shouldn't throw the books.
Then they climbed into a chair to read together.
They often sat on the windowsill in the kitchen and talked about what it was like to be a doll.
Jolena did things with each of her new sisters. With help from a grownup person, she and Mandy found other dolls like themselves on the Internet.
Mandy taught her a lot of things, like that the red things that were growing on the tree in the backyard weren't apples, but cherries.
Jolena and Mandy looked at photo albums together.
They found a nice little nook above the refrigerator where they could put their chairs to read and knit. It had very good light, which is important if you want to read or knit.
Veronika showed her the most interesting places in the house, like the mantle over the fireplace and its long quilt with pictures of houses.
She showed her that there were some interesting things that come in the mail, like catalogs with lots of pictures. Veronika really likes the catalog with cloth and sewing supplies.
Charlotte taught Jolena how to to brush her teeth.
Charlotte also explained that the big green box in front of the house did not have a giant doll it it, but was a big bin to put trash in.
Charlotte helped Jolena go through the clothes hamper and find some clothes to wear, because Jolena only had ski clothes when she first arrived, and the weather was getting warm.
Jolena learned that her new sisters are all different from each other. For instance, Mandy likes to knit.
She also likes to spend time outdoors.
She knows that Veronika is left-handed and that she loves jewelry, especially a necklace given to her by a friend on her birthday.
She also knows that Veronika likes to sew and make quilts.
Charlotte loves music and is learning to play the violin.
She isn't afraid of mice.
She learned that Charlotte can't close her mouth, but that doesn't bother Charlotte, because she has a lot to say.
Jolena knew that she was special in a few ways, too. She knew that she liked to ski, because there were skis in her box when she arrived. She knows that she wants to learn to dance.
She discovered that she was good at cooking and enjoys making food, like making banana-oat waffles.
She has learned that she sometimes gets discouraged when things are hard for her to do, but that if she thinks about her problem enough, and asks for help when she needs it, she can find a way to succeed. She thinks her new sisters are like that, too, but that they all need to be reminded sometimes.
Jolena feels more grown-up now, but she knows that she still has a lot to learn. She thinks that it will be fun learning.
This morning Charlotte found Jolena sitting in the bookcase, reading.
"What are you reading, Jolena?" Charlotte asked.
"Is it a good book?" Lotte asks.
"It's wonderful!" Jolena says.
"That sounds just like us, Jolena," Charlotte said. "We're four sisters who are good friends. We do things together, and we do things alone, and we care about each other, too. What's the name of the book?"
Jolena looked at the cover. "It’s called Little Women."
"That's us, " Charlotte decided. "We're Little Women."
